Mike's Give It Away Journal - Week of 2.24.14

You might be wondering why I'm posting a picture of everything I'm giving away. I was looking for a way to document my journey and decided this would be it. Also, in a year from now, it will be nice to look back and see all the stuff that I really didn't need.  Hopefully, you will be humored and encouraged to give something away as you follow my journey.

Monday 2/24
Over the years I've collected an assortment of technology accessories. I'm sure I needed them at the time but they either became obsolete or didn't work as well as I had hoped. Here are a few items that I gave to a co-worker who used some for himself and others he put in our company's technology stockpile.

Tuesday 2/25
For 9 years I worked for a fresh produce company called River Ranch. They have since been purchase and the only thing that remains is the brand. I guess this hat also remains. It's fitted which doesn't work well for me. I asked Jason, same guy who took Monday's Give It Away item, if he wanted it and he was really excited. You may notice in the upper right of the picture all the produce company hats he has collected.

Wednesday 2/26
I went through a phase when I was on an airplane a couple times a month. I once saw a guy with a DS and thought that would be a nice way to pass the time. This was before smartphones became popular. I have since sold my DS but for some reason I still have Brain Age. I'm going to toss this into my pile of things I'm giving to the They Are One rummage sale.

Thursday 2/27
I'm constantly amazed at the stuff I hang onto. Today, I'm giving away a legal copy of Adobe Premiere and Microsoft Office XP Standard Academic Edition. I haven't used either of these applications for years but I still have them just in case. In case of what I'm not sure.

Friday 2/28
In 2010, I was working at TRUETRAC, a produce traceability company in Salinas. If you don't know, the Salinas valley produces a huge portion of the fresh produce sold in the USA.  Valley Center Bowling twice a year sponsors a bowling tournament for produce companies. I grabbed my co-worker James, a couple guys, from River Ranch Fresh Foods and another guy from Growers Express and we bowled. As you can see, we won and were given this bowling pin. I've kept it for the past 3+ years on my desk.  It currently is sitting on my desk at home and is taking up space not to mention I have to dust it every few days. James said he would love to have it because bowling pins are cool and it is a neat memory.

Saturday 3/1
Give It Away items are not always sexy. Sometimes they are just the extra things you have that you don't really need like this power strip that I found in a box of electronics.

Sunday 3/2
Back when my kids were younger, I bought several of these nightlights.  They were pretty cool because they were LED and had a light sensor.  Problem was they didn't put off much light and the kids really didn't need them.
